Our Unique Approach
Sam Nabil, the founder of Naya Clinics, pioneered Positive Existential Therapy (PET) an innovative and avant-garde counseling approach that he developed in his practice to effectively deal with client challenges that were no longer responding to outdated counseling techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy.
Our Super Stars Team
Less than 5% of the therapists in Aurora who apply to work with us get selected. When selected, each new Aurora therapist goes through rigorous training and a curriculum designed by Sam himself. The training is – no joke – easily comparable to a post-graduate diploma.
Our Aurora Therapists learn from Sam himself about the theory and practice of positive existential therapy before they can ever meet clients. We basically hire only super stars. After hiring them, we push them to become the very best possible version of themselves before they can start seeing clients.
We look forward to working with you.
First time in therapy?
Here is what to expect from your first counseling session at Naya Clinics
We understand the anxiety that some clients feel about opening to a complete stranger about their challenges and concerns. Your first counseling session with one of our therapists will primarily be about your therapist getting to know you and you get to know your therapist as well. You can expect a relaxed environment and an empathic therapist who is genuinely trying to help you and get to know you better.
We will want to know what challenges bring you to therapy, what you hope to achieve by attending counseling sessions, and what success looks like to you when therapy has successfully been concluded.
We will also want to know if you have attended therapy before, and if there is something that you do not like that your former therapist did ( so we can avoid doing that), or if something your former therapist did that worked well for you (so we can do it as well ).
Contrary to popular belief that therapy is a series of never-ending questions about your childhood, at Naya Clinics, we view therapy as a very practical endeavor. As such, you and your therapist will spend part of your first session coming up with a strategy that works well for you to move forward.
This will include prioritizing your goals, frequency of meetings, what approach your counselor suggests you take together, and any other practical considerations you might bring up during your counseling session.
The first session is equally about you getting to know your therapist as it is about your therapist getting to know you. You are in charge!
If you have questions, ask them. If you have concerns, voice them. If you do not like something your therapist said, or something you saw on the website, tell them. If you are intrigued about the specific counseling approach our therapists use, let them know.
Additionally, you do not have to discuss anything you do not want to talk about just yet. If your therapist asks you a question that you are not comfortable answering, tell them you are not ready to discuss this yet.
Asking questions is one of the ways you can get the most out of therapy sessions.
Therapy and counseling are always confidential. Your therapist is a professional and obligated to keep all discussions between you and them confined to their office. This can help you relax and realize it’s OK and even expected for you to be yourself.
Naya Clinics is proud that our average duration of therapy is typically between 6 to 12 sessions only. Our approach is designed to be practical and propel you forward. We define success as our clients leaving our office for the last time never having to go back to us (for the same issue ) ever again.
The quality of the relationship the therapist and the client develop is the biggest indicator of how successful the therapy will be. Because of that, it is crucial that you like your therapist and feel like you can trust them. When finding the right fit for you, we often joke with clients that it is almost like dating. Sometimes you click with someone from the first time, sometimes you just don’t like them, and sometimes it takes you a few times of being around somebody to open up to them. We suggest that you literally “shop around” for therapists. Go to your first session with the view that you are trying that therapist out, if you absolutely don’t like them, try another one.
1- Jot down a short List of marriage counselors In Your Area
There are more than 650,000 counselors scattered across the country. That’s overwhelming.
So start by compiling a short list of marriage counseling near you in a 10 or 20 miles radius
2- Narrow your search down by therapists who work with couples
Not all counselors are qualified or work with couples. Refine your earlier list by finding the relationship counselors who specialize in working with couples and marriage counseling near you.
3- Make sure the therapists on your list are licensed counselors
Make sure the therapists on your list are board certified licensed professional counselors and not some unlicensed person with a website.
4- Learn more about your favorite marriage counselors on your list
After you narrow down your list of marriage counselors that you really like, find answers to some basic questions on their website (or email them)
Here are some sample questions you might want to learn the answers of:
- How long have they been practicing marriage counseling?
- How many couples have they worked with over the years?
- What approaches do you take to providing couples with marriage counseling?
- Is there anything that makes them unique from other local counselors?
- How long do their marriage counseling sessions last, and what frequency of sessions do they typically recommend?
Your goal should be to create some separation between the counselors you’re considering through finding answers to these questions.
5- Try your favorite Marriage Counselor out
Now that you have narrowed down your list even further, pick the couples counselor near you that makes the most sense for you and your partner, and book a session with them. Make sure you fill out the intake paperwork before you get to the session so you can use the full time of the session to work on your relationship, not to do paperwork.
6- If you do not like your therapist, find another one!
Last but not least, if you go through these steps, you will likely end up with a marriage and relationship therapist that you like.
Sometimes, however, even if they are a very good therapist, you just do not click in person. That is ok. Go on to the next therapist on your list until you find a relationship therapist near you that you like working with.
1. Ask for a referral from your primary care physician or doctor
Your primary care physician or a doctor you trust is a great resource to ask for a referral for a therapist near you. They know you well, and they probably have a good sense of which type of therapist would work well for you.
2. Ask your support network
While it’s great to get a recommendation from a professional, maybe you don’t want to go through that hassle. That’s fine – you can ask friends and family for a recommendation.
3. Check counseling providers Databases
Since therapists have to have licenses, there are databases of professionals online. That means you can search Psychology Today’s Therapist Directory for “best therapists near me” and get a list of people to look at.
4. Get to know your short list of therapists better
Once you have compiled a list of counselors near you that you might be interested in working with, go to their websites and learn more about their approach to therapy and about them. Look for things that attract you (or put you off ) about the therapists on your list, and use that to narrow your list down even more.
5. Pick a therapist that appeals to you
Find a therapist on your short list that appeals to you and book an appointment with them.
