WHAT IS SELF ESTEEM?
When you have weak or low self-esteem, rather than respecting yourself you talk down to yourself. Instead of feeling desirable, you feel ashamed; instead of believing you can accomplish your desires, you feel powerless. This feeling of worthlessness and lack of control grows into feelings of vulnerability, loneliness, and guilt.
CAUSES OF LOW SELF ESTEEM
This lack of self-esteem can often lead to other complications, each of which can further damage your self-esteem. The following conditions are often associated with damaged self-esteem:
-
Social or general anxiety
-
Shame and unnecessary guilt
-
Perfectionism
-
Feeling inadequate or powerless
In addition, people with low self-esteem are vulnerable to physical, sexual and emotional abuse. This self-perpetuating cycle leaves its victim unable to escape alone.
HOW CAN SELF-ESTEEM COUNSELING HELP?
The most obvious sign of low self-esteem is negative self-talk. Our clients with damaged self-esteem constantly compare themselves to others and then criticize themselves based on those—naturally shallow—criteria.
Whether it’s counseling students with low self-esteem, running self-esteem group counseling, or simply being a positive voice, we have the self-esteem counseling techniques to help you gain the confidence you need.
Just as the image of yourself can be shattered by negative self-talk, we can teach you how to fill your mind with positive self-talk.
